During your first visit to The Hand and Wrist Clinic, a range of immediate treatments may be available to you, should they be deemed suitable. These interventions are designed to provide relief and support while further treatment options are considered. Please note that additional fees apply for these treatments, which are not covered by the initial consultation fee.
The following treatments and diagnostic procedures may be offered:
Splinting:
Provision of simple splints for fingers, hands, wrists or elbows.
Many splints are ready-made and do not require custom fitting by a hand therapist.
You may be referred to a hand therapist for a custom-made splint if necessary.
Exercises
If stiffness, weakness or instability are part of your condition, you may be referred to a Hand Therapist for a tailored exercise program.
Injection Therapy:
Administration of steroid and/or local anaesthetic injections.
These can be targeted to:
Joints
Tendon sheaths
Soft tissues
Purposes of injections:
To serve as a definitive treatment for certain conditions.
To act as a diagnostic tool to better understand your condition.
Post-Treatment Considerations:
Most patients are able to drive for short distances after receiving injections.
However, some treatments may impair your ability to drive safely:
It is advisable to arrange for someone to drive you home.
If this is not possible, the injection can be rescheduled to a time when transportation is available.
Your well-being is our primary concern, and these treatments are provided with the highest standard of care. Should you require any of these services, The Hand and Wrist Clinic staff will ensure you are fully informed about the procedure, its benefits and any necessary aftercare. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding these additional services and their associated costs.
