Funding Your Hand and Wrist Treatment

We describe how you can cover the cost of your treatment including the insurance providers we work with.

At The Hand and Wrist Clinic, we understand that funding your medical care is an important consideration. We aim to provide you with clear and concise information to help you navigate your payment options, whether you are covered by insurance or paying for your treatment directly.

Is Mr Jagodzinski recognized by major medical insurance companies?

Yes, Mr Jagodzinski is recognized as a provider by most major medical insurance companies, such as Aviva, Axa, Vitality, WPA, Allianz, and Beneden. Unfortunately he decided to no longer work with BUPA and the Royal Devon University Hospital has now withdrawn their contract with BUPA for all private clinicians. Mr Jagodzinski's secretary, Kate, will directly invoice your insurance company on your behalf, provided that you have received ‘preauthorisation’ from your insurer.

What do I need to do before my initial consultation?

It is recommended that you contact your insurance company prior to your initial consultation with Mr Jagodzinski, and again if surgery is being considered. Insurance companies typically require a referral from your GP (General Practitioner / Family Doctor) as a condition of the insurance policy. Upon contacting them, you will receive a pre-authorisation number, which is crucial for a seamless account payment process. Please ensure you give your insurance details, including your policy number and pre-authorisation number, to Kate before your initial consultation with Mr Jagodzinski.

What if I haven’t obtained preauthorisation?

If you have not obtained preauthorisation prior to your consultation, you will be asked to provide a written (e-mail) declaration to Kate prior to the appointment that you are willing to pay Kate for the consultation out of your own funds. This will be invoiced to you directly after your appointment. Payment should usually be made via bank transfer if possible, or by cheque. You can then submit the invoices to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What about self-funding patients?

For patients who are self-funding, many private hospitals offer package deals that include a variety of treatments, such as investigations and surgery. These packages often require full payment or a deposit prior to the treatment. The hospital will also require further payments on account, with the balance to be paid in full upon discharge. The value of the deposit varies depending on the treatment and is at the discretion of the hospital providing the treatment.

For those who prefer not to use the hospital’s package deals, Kate will provide an accurate estimate of the treatment costs prior to commencing any treatment, assuming there are no unforeseen medical or surgical complications. Keep in mind that you will receive separate invoices for:

  • Kate's invoice for Mr Jagodzinski's time and surgical skills

  • Royal Devon University Hospital's Private Patient Office invoice which includes the use of any of the following:

    • Clinic rooms or theatres

    • Equipment and medicines

    • Anaesthetist (not if procedure performed under local anaesthetic)

    • Radiographers and nursing staff in clinics and theatres.

  • Radiology secretary's invoice for the Consultant Radiologist's time and expertise in reporting of X-rays and other imaging modalities such as CT, MRI or Ultrasound.

Not all of these are involved in every step of your patient journey. If you would like to discuss these potential invoices and charges further, please contact Kate prior to your appointment.

Organizing payment in advance of your treatment is a practical step that can save time on the day of admission or immediate post-operative period, allowing you to focus on your recovery and well-being.
